Day 14: A Tale of Two Princesses

September 30, 2014 – The day that changed the lives of two little princesses with two words: Brain Tumor. Tillery and Destiny both left their homes and travelled to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital for their superior care in oncology and neurosurgery. Both families lived at the Ronald McDonald House, eating meals together in the kitchen and swapping stories in the common areas.

You know Tillery’s story. It’s been a bumpy ride but her tumor is s...low growing and low grade. In the end, Tillery will have a long road ahead of her battling this tumor, side effects of the drugs to maintain it, and various treatment plans through the years. But that’s what she will have…a long road.

Destiny has a DIPG tumor. In the world of 120 possible brain tumor diagnoses, DIPG is the one that you are hoping against. It’s the diagnosis where the doctor says you will lose your child…and it will happen soon. The average survival time is 9-10 months. Destiny was diagnosed 20 months ago.

This week, Destiny’s mom took her into the hospital for some signs she had noticed and wanted to wish were not there. An MRI confirmed the fear...there is nothing left to do. Destiny is home with her mom and her brother. They are soaking up every bit of life they can. They are laughing and loving and waiting.

Not every princess gets a fairytale ending.
