The National Cancer Institute (government cancer research monies) only dedicates 4% of their funds to childhood cancer research. Their website says that childhood cancer is "uncommon".
Chances of being attacked by a shark: 1 in 11.5 million
Chances of getting struck by lightning in your lifetime: 1 in 6250
Chances of dying in a car accident: 1 in 470
Chances of a child being diagnosed with cancer: 1 in 330
Seems like childhood cancer is more common than many of our common fears!
Because there isn't much government funding or pharmaceutical funding, much of the pediatric brain tumor research funding comes from families, like ours, who are affected by a diagnosis. So we are doing our part by forming the TIL Foundation to raise research funds.
TIL Foundation t-shirts are on sale until Sunday so buy yours and support pediatric brain tumor research!
